Results of Third Annual Dragonfly Count
Howard County, Maryland
August 23, 2008
This year's dragonfly count got off to a slow start because the weather was
mostly cloudy in the morning, with occasional peeks of sunshine. In the early afternoon the sun
came out more consistently and odonate activity picked way up.
The temperature was comfortable (low to mid 80's). The humidity was high.
Twenty-three people participated.
We tallied 38 species of odonates comprising 1892 individuals.
Some of the better finds were American Rubyspot, Swamp Spreadwing, Stream Bluet, and Swift River Cruiser.
